Complementary Therapy

Pregnancy is as much about mother and father as it is about baby. That is why we offer access to a range of complementary therapies to help make your pregnancy more relaxing and fulfilling. Many women choose to complement traditional medicine with alternative treatments during their pregnancy. Alternative therapies can relax and heal the body and spirit and make your pregnancy more enjoyable. At the Birth Clinic, we have teamed up with some of the UK's leading practitioners across numerous therapies including:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses fine needles the width of a hair inserted at defined points to stimulate and balance Qi, or vital energy. The practice has been used for centuries and acts on health in many ways, including supporting internal organs and hormone balance, circulation, immunity and energy.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is based on the principle of ‘like cures like’ and stimulates your body’s own healing forces. Remedies are made using heavily diluted doses of natural substances such as herbs and minerals to trigger a healing response. They may be used to promote self healing, to strengthen immunity and hormonal balance and to help in times of emotional strain.

Massage

Massage improves skin condition, boosts immunity, promotes muscular activity, reduces pain and aids digestion and can be an important tool in the balancing of hormones. For babies, it can be used to aid development, flexibility and growth and we are proud to host some of the UK's most respected baby massage teachers, who run classes for parents, midwives and other healthcare professionals. You can choose from Reflexology, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue or a range of different massage therapies.

Nutrition Coaching

Nutritional therapy can prevent disease and it complements our specialist medical care. We have a high reputation for using nutrition as a central part of our fertility programme, with excellent results. Many people also use advice during pregnancy, to relieve menstrual disorders or pelvic pain, or to reduce elevated cholesterol levels.

Osteopathy

Osteopaths work towards balance, as this underpins health in mind and body. Their main objective is to release underlying tension, whatever its cause; it may stem from an early life incident (such as birth or childhood accidents) or from a recent injury, or a current medical or emotional problem.
